While I dont think anything can top the Original, the remake might be halfway interesting. For those who havent seen the old one, here’s what Wikipedia says:

Death Race 2000 is a cult action film directed by Paul Bartel in 1975. The movie takes place in a dystopian American society in 2000. [...] One of Mr. President’s most famous decrees has been that of the Transcontinental Road Race, a violent spectacle that takes a small set of racers from New York to ‘New’ Los Angeles, California, leaving death and destruction in their wake.

Now the remake seems to follow a similar road-type race however the main antognist seems to be the prison warden and the race seems to be confined to an enclosed area instead of a cross-country trek. Follow the jump to see the new redband trailer.

So I got a new movie trailer in my Inbox thanks to Sony Studios and it’s titled Quarantine. The plot goes something a bit like this:

Television reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman (Steve Harris) are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. Sara (Crystal Lowe) joins them, when she recognises her best friend, Angela going in in to the building. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crews videotape.

It’s like a mix of Diary of the Dead, 28 Days Later, and Cloverfield.

As Michelle Malkin pointed out back in March, SCOTUS has heard one of the largest cases in terms of precendent that they have looked at in a long time. To put a little backstory on the case, lets quote a bit from Wikipedia:

District of Columbia v. Heller, No. 07-290, is a case pending before the Supreme Court of the United States. It is an appeal from Parker v. District of Columbia, 478 F.3d 370 (D.C. Cir. 2007), a decision in which the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit became the first federal appeals court in the United States to rule that a firearm ban was an unconstitutional infringement of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, and the second to expressly interpret the Second Amendment as protecting an individual right to possess firearms for private use.

The Supreme Court however has limited somewhat the scope of the case to the following:

The petition for a writ of certiorari is granted limited to the following question: Whether the following provisions, D.C. Code §§ 7-2502.02(a)(4), 22-4504(a), and 7-2507.02, violate the Second Amendment rights of individuals who are not affiliated with any state-regulated militia, but who wish to keep handguns and other firearms for private use in their homes?

While this decision will only directly affect the DC case, SCOTUS’ decision here will set a very strong precedent for other possible cases to follow. For the full backstory of the case, I’d suggest reading the Wikipedia article.

From first impression, I think this will be a good series. On one hand, it is on HBO, so do expect some titties flapping around sometimes (case in point: the pilot), but it doesn’t ditract from the story at all. Staring Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, it tells the story of a telepathic girl who falls for a vampire.

On a side note, if I’m going to keep writing reviews like this I’ll need to come up with a rating system.

Rating: 8/10

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.

Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.

The old rancher said, ‘Well, ya know, ‘Obama is a ‘post turtle’.

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what’s a ‘post turtle’?

The old rancher says, ‘When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top ,feet a’flailing in the air, that’s a ‘post turtle’.

‘You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there.’
