King of Pork sent to the slaughterhouse
In a move that was long in coming Senator Ted Stevens, Mr Series of Tubes himself, has been charged with concealing more then $250,000 in kickbacks. About time Mr Bridge-to-Nowhere gets some of what he is due.
Happy Fourth
As if you didn’t already know, on June 26, 2008, the Supreme Court affirmed the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Parker v. District of Columbia, 478 F.3d 370 (D.C. Cir. 2007).[1] The Court of Appeals had struck down provisions of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 as unconstitutional, and determined that handguns are “Arms” that may not be banned by the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.), also striking down the portion of the law that requires all firearms including rifles and shotguns be kept “unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock.” (hat tip Wikipedia). This decision I think deserves some extra special attention this July 4th. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Second Amendment News
As Michelle Malkin pointed out back in March, SCOTUS has heard one of the largest cases in terms of precendent that they have looked at in a long time. To put a little backstory on the case, lets quote a bit from Wikipedia:
District of Columbia v. Heller, No. 07-290, is a case pending before the Supreme Court of the United States. It is an appeal from Parker v. District of Columbia, 478 F.3d 370 (D.C. Cir. 2007), a decision in which the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit became the first federal appeals court in the United States to rule that a firearm ban was an unconstitutional infringement of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, and the second to expressly interpret the Second Amendment as protecting an individual right to possess firearms for private use.
The Supreme Court however has limited somewhat the scope of the case to the following:
The petition for a writ of certiorari is granted limited to the following question: Whether the following provisions, D.C. Code §§ 7-2502.02(a)(4), 22-4504(a), and 7-2507.02, violate the Second Amendment rights of individuals who are not affiliated with any state-regulated militia, but who wish to keep handguns and other firearms for private use in their homes?
While this decision will only directly affect the DC case, SCOTUS’ decision here will set a very strong precedent for other possible cases to follow. For the full backstory of the case, I’d suggest reading the Wikipedia article.
Post Turtle
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.
Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.
The old rancher said, ‘Well, ya know, ‘Obama is a ‘post turtle’.
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what’s a ‘post turtle’?
The old rancher says, ‘When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top ,feet a’flailing in the air, that’s a ‘post turtle’.
‘You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there.’
City of Ember
It’s 10 O’Clock, do you know where your children are?
Well it’s been a long stretch without a post so I figured I’d put out even a simple, we’re still alive post. Not much has been hapening here at the Citadel. In the Political front, I praticipated in the Students for Concealed Carry Empty Holster Protest. Had a couple requests for an interview, but not being able to get a hold of the Campus rep for SCC, I was unable to take them up on that offer. Hopefully in the future I will be able to accept.
Yale ‘Art’
Art major Aliza Shvarts ‘08 wants to make a statement.
Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself “as often as possible” while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.
What. The. Fuck. I’m absolutely speechless on this one. I really don’t even know how this could even barely be considered anything even remotely resembling art. I’ll give some people some lattitude but, cheese and rice, she didn’t simply step over the line, but stepped over, took a massive shit on the line, pour gasoline on the line, lit it on fire, pissed on the fire to put it out, took the ashes of the line, and cased them in a bullet to shoot an endangered animal. Hat tip to Michelle Malkin.
Update: Well thankfully it looks like it was fake. I wonder if it’s a testament to my gullibility or the fact that I find it completely believable that a Moonbat would do something like that.
Concealed Carry
Last friday in the school paper they carried an article and a following editorial about the pro’s and cons about concealed carry on College campuses. Although the article well decently written and helped to point me to a student organization I hadn’t heard about yet, the editorial read like the latest propaganda to come out of the Brady Center. While they say they ‘examined the evidence’ they completely forgot to actually cite this so called evidence they looked at, and the rest of their arguments were made up of “What-If” and outlandish hyperbole. I hate to look like I’m just spouting group-think but this is one school paper that is definitively Liberal-biased. At least I can hope for some more Liberal bobble-head reader editorials in next weeks Opinion section, I do need a good laugh.
Absolut Insanity
Michelle Malkin has written about the latest blip on the reconquista frontier. Evidently I missed the previous article about their ad campaign redrawing the US-Mexico border. While I can say I haven’t ever purchased either of the two (my stock), I think it’s rather easy to choose which one I wont be buying in the future. PS, it’s the overpriced imported piss-water.
Come Hither says San Francisco
In a move that many would find unsurprising, it appears that San Francisco is launching an advertising campaign to highlight they fact they are a haven for crime an villainy.
San Francisco’s “sanctuary” policy for illegal immigrants, which has drawn sharp criticism from conservatives, will be promoted in an advertisement campaign complete with multilanguage brochures and radio and TV public service announcements.
Like FARK has the Florida tag for stories involving people doing completely idiotic things, I think blogs need to start tagging stories like this with a California tag.
